The beautifully restored landmark Birmingham Town Hall will act as a stunning setting for the Midlands and East Anglia Awards Lunch in 2010. Opened in 1834 as the finest music hall in the country, this Grade I listed building has been lovingly restored and renovated, and now hosts a variety of events from concerts by City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to the BBC's Question time.
Drinks will be hosted in the lower bar before guests are seated for a 3-course lunch and pre-lunch speech from guest speaker Roger Madelin from Argent, before the entertainment of the awards begins.
GUEST SPEAKER
Roger Madelin
Joint CEO, Argent
Roger had held senior positions with a national contractor and at an innovative commercial developer when in 1987 he joined the founders of Argent. For the next ten years he took responsibility for delivering all Argent’s developments which included City of London offices, Thames Valley Park and Brindleyplace in Birmingham. Having become a Board member in 1989 he ‘experienced’ the early 1990’s reccession, Argent’s property by property acquisition of what became a major investment portfolio, worth over £350m and ‘enjoyed’ just over 2 years as an ‘emerging major quoted property company’ within the FTSE 250.
Argent was ‘delisted’ in 1997 after an innovative acquisition by British Telecom Pension Scheme. Roger was made Chief Executive and with it’s new ‘long term’ backers was able to expand Argent’s involvement in large multi phase mixed use developments. In 2000 Argent commenced its development activities in Manchester where it is now one of the major City Centre players and in the same year was selected as the developer of the 67 acres of land between and to the north of King’s Cross and St Pancras Station.
To help with Argent’s increasing development and asset management activities at King’s Cross (8m sq ft of development, including 2000 homes) and with major operations in Manchester, Birmingham and South Wales, from September 2006, Roger was joined by David Partridge, his colleague for almost 20 years, as Joint Chief Executive.
Roger is an Honorary Fellow of the RIBA and was awarded a CBE ‘For Services to Sustainable Development’ in the 2007 Honours List.
He is married to Jane, they have 2 small but very active sons yet he still finds some time for cycling and aviation.
