Submissions and Conditions of Entry
Please note that some categories have particular exclusions to the submission required:
Fit Out of Workplace Category
Submission Items 17-18-19-21-23-24-25-28-30-31-32-33-34-36 are not applicable
Innovation Category
If you are making a separate entry for the Innovation award then you do not need to answer Questions 5 - 36 All entries will be considered automatically for the Innovation Award as part of the assessment process. However applicants may also enter an aspect of a project, a process or a product specifically for this award, e.g. an innovative procurement process, a low energy environmental system, or a particularly innovative method of construction.
Commercial or Recycled/Refurbished Base Build Categories
Submission items 7 & 8 are not applicable
Small Projects Category
It is recognised that it may be inappropriate to make a full submission for this category therefore 6-36 of the submission items are optional.
Each entry should include:

Registration
- Completed Entry Form attached to the front of each copy entry submitted
- Printed colour photographs included in the A4 spiral-bound submission
- Answers to all the questions below relevant to your project in sequential order
Introduction
- In no more than 500 words, a summary of the Brief and Key Objectives of the project. If you are only entering the Innovation category, you do not need to answer questions 5-36.
Originality of Concept and Innovation in Execution
- Outline the original ideas in the Conception, Design, Procurement or Operation of the Building
Effectiveness and Performance as a Workplace
- In no more than 500 words, a statement on the specific effectiveness of the space, its use and flexibility.
- Details of any progressive working practices (e.g. hot desking) considered in the design
- Details of staff amenity provisions (e.g. gym, restaurants, showers).
NOTE: Items 7 & 8 are not applicable to Commercial or Refurbished/Recycled base build entries.
Quality of Design and Construction
- In no more than 500 words, a general description of the principles that motivated the design approach, the procurement and subsequent delivery of the project.
- A set (in A4 format) of reduced black-line-on-white plans and sections, reproduced with a drawn scale.
- Evidence of subdivisability where appropriate.
Value for Money, Enterprise and Flexibility
- Project programme (key dates for appointment, planning consent, start on site, practical completion and occupation where applicable)
- Net/Gross Areas – The gross internal area and net internal area (total building and floor by floor).
- Cost information. Details on the cost of the scheme including, as a minimum:
- Cost per m2 in the following categories:
- Demolition/external works
- Shell and Core
- Fit-out (stating whether category A or beyond)
- The base date of the quoted costs
- Operating costs
- Cost per m2 in the following categories:
Civic Responsibility and Social Responsibility
- Describe how the building contributes to the local infrastructure and community, giving details of public transport, communal facilities, jobs created and local benefits from the development.
Appropriateness of Specification (Please refer to the BCO Guide)
- Occupancy: Net Area/Person (m2 net per person)
- *Plan depth
- *Column grid
- *Planning grid
- Floor to ceiling clear height and floor to floor height
- *Lift Standard (max waiting time, percentage moved in 5 mins)
- Raised floors
- *Structural syste
- *Structural live loading
- *Structural dead load
Energy & Sustainability
- Heating system
- Small power loading (w/m2) and cable distribution
- *Specialist service provisions (e.g. standby power, communications, security etc)
- Lighting level (lux) and approach
- *Temperature standard
- *Fresh air standard
- *Internal environmental control (natural ventilation/air-conditioning/ mixed mode) and the type of air-conditioning if relevant
- *Energy and CO2 Emissions set out in both kWhr/m2/year and kh/CO2/m2/yr for:
- Heating and hot water
- Lighting
- Fans, pumps, office equipment and cooling (not comms)
- savings generated from renewable energy such as PV or wind
- Other specialist building loads for comms rooms electricity and cooling load, kitchens, recreational amenities etc
Impact on Environment
- *Give a BREEAM certificate or other recognised external assessment with supporting evidence (summary sheet and formal notification required)
- List specific Sustainability Measures included in the Project.
- *Number of car, motorcycle and bicycle parking spaces and car parking ratio
