Judging Process

The expertise and commitment shown by Regional and National judges is superb and helps make the BCO Awards one of the most rigorous judging processes and, therefore, worthwhile in the property industry.

It is recognised that the opportunities and challenges set by each development are different and diverse. A key question for the judges will therefore be whether the applicant team has made the best of the circumstances presented to them.

In making their assessment the judges will, amongst other factors, assess:

  • Project aims and rationale
  • Utility of the product
  • Specification and design solutions
  • Quality of build
  • Effectiveness of a workplace
  • Enterprise and innovation
  • Value, cost and programme
  • Energy and sustainability
  • Local context and impact
  • Lifting the spirits

National Judging Chair Statement

Significantly, the BCO Awards 2010 is likely to benefit from a record year of completions for the sector, against a backdrop of serious economic uncertainty.

In such volatile conditions, more than ever a project's success will depend on its intrinsic qualities, the creativity and application of good design, quality of workmanship and clarity of brief. There will be no bull market to paper over the cracks of deficiencies, either in construction or fit-out.

Therefore, the process of judging, awarding and celebrating the exemplars of our collective output will allow the occupier or client to identify the best amongst the crowd.

The judging panels look forward to appraising your submissions and visiting the products of your hard work.
