Judging Process
The expertise and commitment shown by Regional and National judges is superb and helps make the BCO Awards one of the most rigorous judging processes and, therefore, worthwhile in the property industry.
National Judging Chair Statement
The projects which qualified for the 2011 Awards were commissioned at a time of great uncertainty - those which qualify for 2012 will have been conceived and delivered at a time when that uncertainty turned into the harsh reality of recession.
The judges and organisers are particularly keen to be able to review the effects of these tough conditions on the built product of that time, in order to be able to demonstrate the depth and resilience of this sector - as well as the boldness of those who persevered in an extremely difficult market.
Just completing a building in this climate is a success in itself - please help us by putting your projects forward for the 2012 Awards so that the BCO can continue to celebrate that success further.
It is recognised that the opportunities and challenges set by each development are different and diverse. A key question for the judges will therefore be whether the applicant team has made the best of the circumstances presented to them.
In making their assessment the judges will, amongst other factors, assess:
- Project aims and rationale
- Utility of the product
- Specification and design solutions
- Quality of build
- Effectiveness of a workplace
- Enterprise and innovation
- Value, cost and programme
- Energy and sustainability
- Local context and impact
- Lifting the spirits
